NBA Most Valuable Player (MVP)
The NBA's highest individual honor — awarded annually to the league's most outstanding player as voted by media.
The NBA MVP award has been given annually since 1955–56, voted on by a panel of sportswriters and broadcasters. Each voter ranks five players, and points are awarded on a 10-7-5-3-1 basis.
The MVP is the strongest single predictor of Hall of Fame induction in basketball. Every multi-time MVP winner has been inducted. Even single-time MVPs have an induction rate above 85%.
The award has historically favored players on winning teams, though narrative and advanced stats play an increasing role. Nikola Jokic's three MVPs (2021, 2022, 2024) were driven largely by unprecedented advanced metrics, signaling a shift in voter priorities.
AllFame assigns significant weight to MVP awards in the Awards & Selections dimension. Multiple MVPs dramatically increase a player's HOF Score — often the difference between "On Track" and "Lock" status.
