Silver Slugger Award

Annual recognition for the best offensive player at each position, chosen by MLB managers and coaches.

The Silver Slugger Award, presented by Hillerich & Bradsby Co. since 1980, recognizes the best offensive player at each position in each league, as voted by managers and coaches. It was created as the offensive counterpart to the Gold Glove — which focuses on defense.

Selection criteria traditionally include batting average, on-base percentage, slugging percentage, and other offensive contributions. Managers and coaches may factor in performance against their own teams, familiarity bias, and reputation.

A player who wins multiple Silver Slugger Awards at the same position has demonstrated sustained elite offense. When combined with Gold Gloves, it signals a complete, two-way player. AllFame includes Silver Slugger awards in the Awards & Selections dimension.
